NLPOA Career Development

  • NLPOA members are provided with the latest national and local training to advance their careers.
  • NLPOA members receive assistance with Promotional Testing. Be a part of Study Groups, Test Taking Strategies and Assessment Centers.
  • Training for Technical Assignments and or Training for Task Force Assignments.
  • The NLPOA Mentorship Program is designed to assist NLPOA members through the law enforcement academies and through the first year of non-permanent status by providing solid/ethical responses to problems and questions.

NLPOA Legal Defense Program

  • NLPOA members are encouraged to use their unions or police/corrections associations if they choose, as they also represent your employment interests.
  • The NLPOA Legal Defense Program is available (optional) to our NLPOA membership for those employment events that require an attorney.
  • Examples would include officer involved shootings, in-custody deaths, internal affairs investigations and more.
  • The NLPOA Legal Defense Program provides additional peace of mind throughout your law enforcement career. Contact a board member for more information.

NLPOA Employment Advocacy

  • There may be occasions when you need to respond to adverse action based on disparate treatment and/or a pattern and practice by a law enforcement agency.
  • The NLPOA will review your case and if there is merit, we will assist with the filing of EEO complaints.
  • We will recommend attorneys for these adverse employment actions, and/or file with the U.S. Department of Justice directly.

  • To submit legislative support at the local, state, and federal level, on issues that affect law enforcement and NLPOA members.
  • The NLPOAA is also designed for maximum active NLPOA representation for our members.

NLPOA Objectives

  • Community Involvement – Crime prevention begins with community involvement! Join NLPOA chapters nationwide as we sponsor crime prevention and violence reduction initiatives directly in at-risk communities!
  • Vitalizing the Neighborhoods/Communities – setting as the primary focus for services will encompass a broad range of activities involving various cooperative relationships between all elements of the community.
  • At-Risk-Youth Programs – Assist the families of At-Risk-Youth by providing a broad range of neighborhood/community and support activities so that our youth have alternatives to gangs or drugs.
  • Promoting Higher Education – NLPOA provides financial support (Scholarships) to high school and college students in need of pursuing their careers and goals.
  • Organizing Philosophy – Beyond these objectives, we must continue our efforts to help those in need, particularly in promoting higher education for our youth. Our philosophy regarding youth and education will enhance opportunities for our youth and reinforce the important contributions our cultural diversity provides to this great nation.
